Rock ’n Cork is a children's rocking toy that explores the meeting point between play, material innovation, and sustainable design.
Developed as part of the Corkway x Vizcom Design Competition, the project combines a soft, sculptural cork body with a lightweight metal frame, creating a simple yet expressive object that encourages movement, balance, and sensory interaction. Designed for early childhood, Rock ’n Cork transforms the familiar rocking motion into a tactile experience, allowing children to engage directly with the warmth and texture of natural cork.
Beyond its playful function, the project investigates the potential of cork as a primary structural material. Lightweight, renewable, and pleasant to the touch, cork offers a safer and more inviting alternative to conventional materials often used in children's products. The metal runners provide stability and durability while visually emphasizing the object's continuous rocking motion.
With its reduced material palette, rounded geometry, and intuitive form, Rock ’n Cork aims to create a lasting object that supports children's development while fostering a closer relationship with natural materials from an early age.
